The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Limited (GAIC), the Nodal Agency of Govt. of Gujarat and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), the Nodal Agency of Govt. of India to set up a Vapour Heat Treatment (VHT) facility at Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The project cost of this infrastructure facility is estimated at Rs.642 lakhs. APEDA has sanctioned a grant of Rs.447 lakhs to GAIC to set up the VHT at Ahmedabad. |

At present, VHT facilities for the treatment of Fruits and Vegetables for export is available at the VHT plant owned by Maharashtra Marketing Board at Wasi, Bombay. There will be substantial increase in exports of fruits and vegetables after installation of this facility in Gujarat and the Exporters and farmers of the State will be abundantly benefited. |

VHT facility would include sterilization without using chemicals, treatment in saturated vapour, prevention of transpiration of water so that there is no loss of heat through vapourization and no shrinkage of food. |

The setting up of VHT facility would enable farmers of Gujarat to take their premium quality Alphonso and Kesar Mango to the quality conscious consumers of Japan. As per the regulation of Govt. of Japan, export consignments of fresh mango required to be sterilized to remove the fruit flies. |

The Mou has signed by the Managing Director, Shri S.C. Srivastav, IFS on behalf of GAIC and Shri K.S. Money, IAS, Chairman on behalf of APEDA. |

| Mou with SBI for Crop Loan to Farmers |

| Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Limited (GAIC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with State Bank of India (SBI) to play a role of Business Facilitator through its marketing network of Unemployed Technicians/Agro Business Centres (UT/ABC) in the three banking segments of SBI, viz. Deposits, Credit and Debt Recovery. |
| SBI has its presence in the entire rural and semi urban area of Gujarat State and GAIC would be offering their network to SBI for all the three banking segments for crop loan. Corp loan, as per the report of Govt. of India has always been identified as one of the major constraints in the growth of agriculture. With this arrangement, the farmers could be getting Corp Loan @ 7% interest without any overhead costs. |

During the Silver Jubilee function of Ministry’s establishment, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has selected Gujarat State for the “Second Prize for Biogas Programme (2002-07) under general category State” by the Government of India, while first prize has gone to Special category State. Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Ltd. is the nodal agency for implementation of this Scheme of Ministry in Gujarat State. At the Silver Jubilee function held on 22/11/2007 at New Delhi, the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil has presented the “Akshay Urja Award” to Shri S.C. Srivastav, IFS, Managing Director, Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Ltd. in the presence of Minster of MNRE, Govt. of India. Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Ltd. being the Nodal Agency for the State has constructed 41,555 Bio-gas plants as against the target of 40,000 Bio-gas plants during the years 2002-07 and has constructed 3,55,000 Bio-gas plants in the State during the year 1981 to 2007. |
